Litigation for Animal Welfare (LAW) Announces Support for Megan Langevin in Lawsuit Filed by No Dogs Left Behind, Inc. and Jeffrey Beri
NEW YORK, NY — May 15, 2025 — Litigation for Animal Welfare (LAW), a nonprofit dedicated to advancing justice through strategic legal support in animal welfare matters, announced today that it will provide litigation support, legal referral, and fundraising assistance on behalf of Megan Langevin in the case No Dogs Left Behind, Inc. and Jeffrey Beri v. Megan Elizabeth Langevin and John Does 1–10, currently pending in the Supreme Court of the State of New York.
This lawsuit, filed March 9, 2025 by No Dogs Left Behind (NDLB) and its founder Jeffrey Beri, demands Langevin, a former employee, pay the sum of $100K in damages based on their claim that after Langevin quit, she posted unflattering videos, on an animal advocates website, contrary to an NDA which includes a non-disparagement agreement. NDLB also seeks to remove Niu Niu, a 10+ year old German Shepard, suffering from degenerative myelopathy from Langevin’s care. NDLB claims that she “kidnapped” the dog, a Chinese rescue dog, who had survived a recent shelter fire at NDLB’s Canton, NY facilities. That fire resulted in 44 other dogs perishing.
LAW is committed to protecting those who speak up for animals—even when doing so puts them at personal or legal risk. In this case, we believe the public has a right to hear from individuals who have witnessed conditions and conduct that may be inconsistent with the mission of animal rescue and protection.
“We stand with Megan Langevin and all whistleblowers who risk retaliation in the pursuit of truth,” said Alexandrea Merrell, Executive Director of Litigation for Animal Welfare. “Animal welfare organizations must be held to the highest ethical standards—not shielded from scrutiny through intimidation or aggressive legal tactics.”
As part of its support, LAW will:
Provide strategic litigation support to ensure due process and transparency in the proceedings
Assist with legal referral to qualified attorneys familiar with defamation, whistleblower rights, nonprofit accountability, and animal rights.
Launch a public fundraising campaign to help offset legal costs and raise awareness about the broader implications of the case
Work with media partners to increase the coverage of this case
LAW encourages the public and the media to follow case developments and to continue advocating for ethical conduct across all sectors of the animal welfare community.
