Litigation for Animal Welfare Launches Investigation into Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation
New York, NY — May 5, 2025 — Litigation for Animal Welfare (LAW), a nonprofit legal organization dedicated to protecting animals through litigation, advocacy, and transparency initiatives, has launched an official investigation into the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation (AHWF), a California-based nonprofit claiming to rescue and rehabilitate abused animals, primarily from China. Disgraced founder, Marc Ching continues to operate the organization after his 2021 conviction for practicing veterinary medicine without a license. The investigation that resulted in his conviction also revealed that he had made false or misleading statements in his donation marketing which included exaggerating or fabricating stories of animal abuse to solicit donations.
The LAW investigation was initiated in response to multiple complaints from former staff, volunteers, adopters, and members of the public concerning the organization’s continued practices. LAW will be examining whether AHWF continues to violate animal welfare laws, engage in deceptive fundraising, or misrepresent the condition or treatment of animals in its care.
“Serious allegations have emerged that suggest a troubling gap between its public image and internal practices of the Animal Hope and Welfare Foundation. Our investigation seeks to determine whether animals are being exploited rather than protected, and whether the public continues to be misled. We owe it to the animals—and to the people who support rescue efforts—to ensure accountability and truth.” - Alexandrea Merrell Executive Director, Litigation for Animal Welfare
Litigation for Animal Welfare is currently collecting documentation and testimony from those with direct knowledge of AHWF’s practices, including former employees, volunteers, veterinary personnel, fosters, and adopters.
LAW combines legal strategy, policy advocacy, and investigative journalism to confront the systemic abuse, neglect, and exploitation of animals. Individuals with information are encouraged to submit securely through the form at www.litigationforanimalwelfare.org/nycacc-investigation .
Further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
